Unemployment Briefing Note - May 2016

The latest unemployment figures for May 2016 have just been released. In Staffordshire there are 4,885 people claiming out of work Universal Credit benefits including Job Seekers Allowance, this equates to a rate of 0.9%, which is the same as the previous month. Staffordshire County now has the lowest rate in this measure of all West Midlands Strategic Authorities.

Sir Bill Cash MP intervenes in road closures

In response to recent road closures on both the Eccleshall Road and Meece Road, Stone MP Sir Bill Cash has said –“My constituents, including local business owners and many families are very concerned about the closure on the Eccleshall Road overbridge on the M6 on top of the anticipated closure on the nearby Meece Road, near Yarnfield, connecting Cold Meece and Norton Bridge.      

Unemployment Briefing January 2016

The latest unemployment (JSA claimant count) figures for January have just been released.The claimant rate for Staffordshire has increased slightly compared to the previous month to 4,167 and now stands at 0.8%, as with previous years this increase can be attributed to seasonal work coming to an end after the Christmas period.

People in distress can call 112 around the clock to reach the fire brigade, medical assistance and the police. The European emergency number is free and can be reached by landline phones as well as mobiles.

Unemployment figures for Staffordshire - October 2015

The latest unemployment or JSA claimant count figures for October have been released and remain the same for Staffordshire as the previous month at 0.8%.The claimant rate for Staffordshire has stayed the same as the previous month and remains at 0.8%, this is now the joint lowest rate ever recorded in the county, in terms of actual numbers this now replaces September 2015 for the lowest number of JSA claimants ever recorded (4,035), almost breaking the 4,000 mark for the first time. The claimant rate in Staffordshire is also lower than both the regional (1.9%) and national (1.5%) averages.Such a small number of people claiming JSA across Staffordshire is good news for everyone in the county and means people are making the most of the opportunities on offer. The challenge still is to attract better paid skilled jobs, not just jobs for the sake of employment. Other areas still have that challenge.
